Routine: Doing a specific act or series of acts in the same way repeatedly. Also, boring, uninteresting, the same. Routine is an inescapable part of life. We all have them. Whether it be brushing your teeth in the morning or the time you have lunch, we all have things we do that define routine. But too many of us allow routine to rule our lives. We become programmed, robotic, and consequently lose the sense of wonder that being alive brings.
It's time to put a stop to that right now.
I'm Daniel Hirshleifer, and along with my two compatriots, Andrew Robinson and Andy Corvey, we are going to put routine in its place. We can't wipe routine from our lives. It's part of how we function as humans. But what we can do is make the choice, right here and right now, to not allow routine to rule our lives. To that end, we have decided to open up ourselves up to adventure.
When you think of adventure, I'm sure you think of sky diving, white water rafting, etc. And doubtless, those are grand adventures. But when we say adventure we mean something different. We look at adventure as doing something that takes you out of your comfort zone. Something that leads you away from the established routines in your life, whether it be for fifteen months or fifteen minutes. It can be as complex as a trip around the world or as simple as visiting a new part of town.
Here's the deal: To have an adventure everyday; be it big or small, planned or spontaneous; we look for an opportunity to have an adventure everywhere we go. We'll write about them as we go, sometimes with photos, and sometimes even video. We'll post about the best adventures here, and you can see a complete list or "Adventure Diary" further down on this page.
Due to the nature of this project, we have dubbed it "Everyday Adventure." Keep checking back here for the reports of our missions and thoughts about what it means to seek out adventure in your own life.
